MARCH IN THE JUNIOR ROOM
SPRING HAS ARRIVED
We have been very busy this month. We enjoyed pancakes with various sweet toppings for Pancake Tuesday. We attended mass in Killasser church on Ash Wednesday. We participated in lots of ‘spórt agus spraoi’ during Seachtain na Gaeilge as well as learning all about St.Patrick.
The senior room and third class are busy training for their triathlon which takes place on the 21st of this month. And second class pupils are preparing for their First Holy Confession which will take place on Tuesday the 25thof March.
Celene, an education officer with the Jackie Clarke Education Outreach Programme visited and led a story telling workshop in the Junior room. We are continuing with our music lessons with Zane and we learned a really fun song and dance called ‘Irish Stew’. We have also started our GAA training with Ryan and are really developing our skills.
We are making the most of the very nice weather and learning all about spring, getting out in the fresh air for nature walks and planting.
FEBRUARY IN THE JUNIOR ROOM
LOVE IS IN THE AIR
We had a very busy month in the Junior room. There is always lots to celebrate in February.
We continued with our weekly music lessons with Zane and Tom, which included an introduction to the violin. We did lots of lovely art activities for Valentine's Day including looking at the work of American artist Jim Dine and how hearts are portrayed in his work. We celebrated St. Valentine's Day and made lovely cards and art to take home.
Our theme of the month is Spring and we are learning all about Spring. In P.E. we are continuing on with our dance lessons and triathlon training as well as starting our Gaelic football training.
JANUARY 2025
HAPPY NEW YEAR
We are all happy to be back at school for 2025. We are learning all about winter weather, but we are very much looking forward to spring time. We are continuing with our music lessons with Zane and tin whistle with Tom on Fridays. We are learning all about dance with Ms. Slack and Ms. McHale. We learned all about the Chinese New Year. This is the year of the snake. We even learned Guan Hay Fat Choy, a Chinese New Year song and made snakes but sadly due to the storm, school was closed for the Chinese New Year.
Storm Éowyn arrived this month. It was a record breaking storm. Luckily our school was not damaged and we were able to get back to lessons as soon as power was restored. We learned a lot about weather from the storm and most importantly how to stay safe and prepare for future storms.
DECEMBER 2024
December has been a very busy month. We have been busy practicing for our play and nativity. We have been learning lots of new songs and our lines too. We are really looking forward to our performance. Advent has been a very special time in our room. We made our own advent wreath and have been learning the poem ‘Prepare, prepare, prepare’. We have our own acts of kindness calendar and have been choosing one each day. We decorated our classroom and we are all in the festive spirit.
Ms. Slack showed us how to make tea light holders with clay and we also made Christmas decorations with clay too. We finished our 6 weeks of Gymnastics at Nadia gym this month and we look forward to learning all about dance next month. We also wrapped up in our winter woollies and went for a winter nature walk.
NOVEMBER 2024
This month we have been busy learning all about maths with lots of fun and engaging activities. We have had lots of lovely music experiences too. We had our weekly lessons with Zane from music generation as well as a Djembe drumming lesson with slí na croí.
We had a very talented musician join us on work experience. Martin is an aspiring primary school teacher and a very talented banjo player. Thank you Martin for all our help. We hope to see you back in the classroom in the future. We also started our gymnastics lessons in Nadia gym, Ballina.
OCTOBER 2024
This month we are enjoying music classes with Zane from Music Generation Mayo and Tom Doherty.
We have been learning all about Autumn and we made the most of the good weather to get out for a nature walk. We got to meet the lovely mums and dads for the parent-teacher meetings.
We have had lots of fun reading Julia Donalson's Room on the Broom and other spooky stories. Ms. Slack played traditional Halloween games with us and we dressed up for Halloween.
We are using lots of resources in our environment and maths resources to reinforce maths concepts and we are recording our learning in our maths journals.
SEPTEMBER 2024
Welcome to the Junior Room
A very special welcome to our new students in Junior Infants. We are all nicely settled into our new classroom and our new routine.
We have had a very busy month in school. Please take a look at our gallery this month to view some of the lovely learning experiences we had and new friends we have made.
We made the most of the exceptionally good Autumn weather and took some classes outside.
As this month comes to an end, we are grateful for all the learning opportunities and fun we had learning, but we are also getting excited for Halloween next month.

What a great day for our annual sports day. Amazing weather throughout the day for all our track and field events. With all our events, from shot put to javelin, sprints & novelty races, who could resist a water fight and an ice cream after the rivalry of the day. Well done to all our students.

PROJECT GROW
Our pumpkins
Last March & April we were busy planting. We grew a great selection of vegetables but really wanted to attempt pumpkins. After a very uncertain start, our pumpkin patch is showing great progress and should be ready for Halloween!!!!
