Killasser NS has achieved 5 Green Flag Awards. We claimed the National An Tasice award for Water Conservation School of the year.
Children from 3rd to 6th participate in the ESB Primary Science Blast and travel to the RDS in Dublin to display their award-winning projects.
Students from Junior to Sixth Class participate in yoga classes, for a 6-week programme, in the 1st term. Yoga has great benefits.
All students from Junior to 6th take gymnastic lessons in Nadia Gym in Ballina, annually, in the first term. A unique experience for the sudents.
The Aistear programme is implemented in the Junior Room, developing play and language skills with children from Junior Infants to second class.
After working diligently for the whole year, students enjoy a wonderful, active and fun filled school tour at various locations throughout Ireland.
We prepare and enjoy a full Christmas dinner annually with each class, from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, taking responsibility for an area of preparation.
Music classes are weekly from First to Sixth class with Tom Doherty. Children learn to play the tin whistle and another instrument if they are interested.
All children from Junior infants to 6th class take swimming lessons, normally a course of 6 weeks, during the third term of the year.
All students participate in the annual Christmas production. The wider community is invited to the play and make the perfecr audience for the students.
We have developed a garden to the front of the school for the children to enjoy and we plant a selection of vegetables and flowers annually.
We achieved Active School Status. An active school is where physical activity is valued, promoted and enjoyed by all. Physical activity is promoted in a positive and inclusive way.
We welcome speakers to our school each year. Previous speakers include; Chanelle McCoy, Maria Walsh and Andy Moran. Virtual Speakers: Aidan O'Shea and Ryan Tubridy.
All students participate in Boxercise classes for a 6-week programme in the third term of each year. It improves general fitness, hand and eye co-ordination and balance.
Students from Second to Sixth Class participate annually in the cycle safety programme provided by Mayo County Council. This programme is hugely beneficial.
Students from Third to Sixth Class participated in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. Students made a business plan and produced a book to sell about the Enivornment.
Students from 3rd to 6th class participate in the primary school cross country competition held in the first school term each year.
Students have participated in the FÍS Film project. The students created storyboards, acted, directed and edited a movie for the project.
Dynamite djembe drumming with Anthony from music generation today. We played, sang in Swahili, worked as a team and produced some amazing sounds.
Students from Junior Inftans to Sixth Class attened a virtual workshop with Declan from Science Ireland. He gave us an amazing tour of the solar system.
Killasser N.S. are delighted to have been selected to paricipate in Mayo's Music Generation Programme. Students will learn how to play the Ukulele.
